Rowing dinghy: LOA 12'1"Beam 4'3"

This historic Tasmanian dinghy was built by Walter Paisley, a former inmate of the Point Puer prison for  boys at Port Arthur, and was given to Dinah and John Wilson as a wedding present (1872).  After many years of service to the Wilson family,  she was donated in trust to the Maritime Museum of Tasmania, where she is now located.

A replica has now been completed  for a Hobart client.
Before building, a great deal of research was done.  Lines were taken off the original, along with extensive construction notes and details by Michael Staples, a dedicated marine conservator from Cygnet, Tasmania. The boat was then lofted full size.

Construction is seam batten carvel with the top two planks clinker.  Planking and  ribs are Huon Pine, with a Celery Top Pine keel.
King Billy Pine, Huon Pine and She-Oak were used in the fit out.

Fastenings are copper, and silicon bronze.

Five planks aside.

This dinghy was exhibited at the Australian Wooden Boat festival, in Hobart in 2001, and we had an excellent response to her all weekend.

Ned has been commissioned to make another Mrs Wilsons dinghy. He shall be setting up the stock very shortly.
