Blocks in the make

The rather serious, industrial looking sheave blocks,
are actually coffee tables, two of them commissioned by Hobart clients.
They are built from Tasmanian Oak, with sheaves from King billy Pine.
When finished they will measure, 900mm long x 450 w x 450 h,
and they will be very heavy.

Salvaged bench made with a boat about to be cut up and burned.

'Salvaged'

This piece was built for the annual  'Benchmarking Birches Bay' exhibition.
The artist statement was as follows:
"The timbers used in creating this bench, were once part of a strong,
proud hull of a 40 odd foot motor cruiser.

After long years of service, she was destined for restoration/rebuild.
She sat for years, awaiting her reward for work well done. Until one afternoon, one person
decided she was in the way, and took to her with a chainsaw and a match.
I managed to salvage a few hull sections before they reached the fire.
In this wasteful society, some think that once something reaches the end of its working life,
the only place to go is landfill, or fuel for the fire. I disagree - life goes on."

"Foster 10" was completed in February 2010 and has gone to it's
